LBJ Law Review

The US Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program akso known as the food stamps is a program that helps families with low or no income buy food. This program is run by the U.S department of Agriculture. Individual states handed out food stamps that were worth 1,5, and ten dollar, participants are allowed to buy pre-packaged foods (nutruitional value doesn't matter) In the late 1990's the program was reshaped and food stamps were out and a new thing called elecetronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards were the new thing. This new thing was just like a debit card .Individuals use the card when they go shopping instead of using the traditional paper stamps that are worth an individual amount. In september 2o08 the food stamp program was at an all high about 31.5 million were on government assistance. This was the highest amound of people that have ever been assisted since the program started in 1962.

I think that the food stamp program is a good idea for low income families or families that don't have any money at all, everyone needs to eat and with out the program a lot of families may go hungry. I personally think that people who don't have an income should have to show proof of trying to get a job ex: showing proof they had an interview.
